Only Three Days to Go...

yes, that is three more days until my career as a TLC is over.
I cannot believe it.  It seems like just yesterday I was waiting over the summer for TLC mail and packages, spending countless hours running around in New Orleans at our Convention, learning EVERYTHING about Zeta at training in Indy, and heading off to my first visit at Valdosta.  Now, I'm at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC anxiously awaiting my Tuesday morning flight home, for good.

It's such a bittersweet feeling.

Bitter because this has been my life for the past 9 1/2 months, constantly on the move, traveling the country, empowering collegiate sorority women, meeting new people, experiencing different things and different cultures, all while learning about the fraternity and learning about myself.  Sweet because I get to see my family and friends, I don't have to miss anymore holidays, birthdays, or weekend trips, I get to have my closet and room back, settle down and find a real job (okay, that might be in the bitter part as well), enjoy summer, go to concerts, and cuddle with Chloe.
I've compiled a list of some statistics from the past year:
Universities Visited: 26
Overall Visits:  28
Recruitments:  5
Flights:  58
States:  15
States including airports:  19
Colonizations:  1
Initiation Ceremonies:  25
Airports (not including repeats):  31
National Conventions:  1
Zeta Days:  2

Here's some pictures from throughout the year:

Happy Earth Day!

I remember back in elementary school when our teachers would give us pictures to color that related to Earth Day, but that was all the attention the day ever got.  Now, more than ever, Earth Day is becoming something more and more people talk about.  Certain store have Earth Day sales, promotions, and Go Green! is promoted year round.

I hope you all enjoy your Earth Day!

"I'm going back to dignity and grace. I'm going back to Charleston"

...me too, Rhett.

I absolutely could not have loved Charleston any more.  Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a sucker for anything that has a little history, and man is Charleston filled with it.  Remember all those pictures I posted a few days ago?  Well Google images did not do the city justice.  On top of everything else, the girls of Eta Lambda were just amazing!  They took me to lunch and dinner at all their favorite local places to eat and gave me a map of the city so I could explore on my own!  It's little things like that that make my day!

If you haven't been to Charleston, start planning your trip now!  Until then, here's some pictures that I took of this wonderful city in South Carolina.

Record Store Day

Record Store Day is a fairly new... holiday, if you will.
It started in 2007 and it's a day where all the locally owned record stores
come together with various artists to celebrate music.
What makes this day special, is that many record companies and artists release hard to find vinyls and CDs, promotional products, and exclusives on this day only.

Some special releases just for today include:
Bob Dylan- Bob Dylan In Concert:  Brandeis University 1963
Country Joe & the Fish-Electric Music for the Mind and Body
Death Cab for Cutie-Atlantic Records Presents:  Death Cab for Cutie in Living Stereo! (RSD Exclusive)
Derek & the Dominos-Got to Get Better in a Little While & Layla
Foo Fighters-Medium Rare
Grateful Dead-Grateful Dead (LP)
International Submarine Band w/ Gram Parsons-Safe At Home
Kings of Leon-Holy Roller Novocain
Matt & Kim-Block After Block
Paul Simon- So Beautiful or So What
Phish-Phish:  Two Soundchecks
Ray Lamontagne- Live Fall 2010
Robbie Robertson- How to be Clairvoyant

For more on Record Store Day and a list of most of the participating store visit their site here.
Rock on, friends.

Carolina In My Mind

Who doesn't love some James Taylor?  This has been my theme song this week and will continue to be through the end of April.  I am in my last leg of visits, all four being in South Carolina.  I'm currently at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC and in a few days I'll be heading to the beautiful city of Charleston and visiting the Eta Lambda ladies at the College of Charleston.  I keep hearing so amazing things about this chapter and this town.  I cannot wait.  I got so excited I Googled some pictures...I promise to take lots and show you some of my own once the visit is over!
I've been tallying all sorts of different statistics about my year of travel.  It's all starting to surprise even me! Stay tuned for a post about all the miles I traveled, states I was in, airports, etc.  Get excited!!

Hi I'm Katie, I went to Brown

Just kiddinggg.  Clearly I did not go to Brown, it's just what I've been saying to keep up with all these Ivy Leaguers here at Penn.  Yesterday Shaina (a fellow TLC) accidentally said "zip code" instead of "area code" and the students here were like "UM do you mean area code? ::eye roll::."  Yeah, when you're at one of the best schools in the country you have to be on your game 24/7 unless you want to feel stupid.

I am LOVING it here.  I wish I would have taken high school more seriously and would have actually been able to attend a school like this.  It makes me feel smarter just being here.  The ZTA chapter is awesome and super excited for their initiation and re-activation this weekend.  For those of you thinking, "huh?  re-activation?" it means that the chapter here at UPenn was once a ZTA chapter, Alpha Beta, but got shut down for one reason or another and is "re-opening" this weekend.  A bunch of Zeta VIZ's (Very Important Zetas) will be here this weekend for the big re-installiation banquet along with us nine TLCs.  SO, that means a very busy weekend ahead.  I might not be able to post for a few days, so until then, enjoy some pics of Penn's campus!
